Voinjama City —Sunday, October 26, 2025— On Friday October 24, 2025, Hundreds of Lofaians took on different media platforms including social media to express their happiness and passion for the love of sporting activities; particularly during the official opening of just launched District League.
The District League has been developed as a form of preparatory stage ahead of the formal commencement of the National County Sports Meet.
According to information released by the organizers, the five administrative districts have been pitted against each other to trash it out in the games of football.
In the opening game, the lineup saw Voinjama District # 4 go against Vahun District #2 with the match ending in a dramatic 1–1 draw.
In joyous moods, citizens supporting their respective districts displayed different style of celebrations with some chanting slogan of victories including “My district will win this tournament,” while others danced to tunes of different traditional musical instruments on the field in support of their. Around the pitch, Mende speaking group were seen singing and dancing to their traditional songs, while the Lorma and Mandingo ethnicities of District #4, also similarly sang and equally danced to theirs as well.

“We love the tournament, in fact we want it be played every year, because it brings about togetherness, happiness and above all promote unity in our communities,” some of the spectators were heard saying happily.
Many among the crowd who spoke to RRNN reporter following the match, mentioned that annual district league in the county could be highly beneficial for numerous reasons, including but not limited to grassroots football development, regular tournaments; leading to the identification and nurturing of young talents; and enhancing the county’s sport infrastructure.

Furthermore, they added this could be a game changer for the youthful and budding populations as it could also improve community engagement, local sporting events fostering community spirit, and encouraging people to come together and support their teams.
For the County authorities and businesspeople, the proposed Annual District League could yield improved economic dividends as local sports events generate revenue through ticket sales, sponsorships, and other kinds of business opportunities.
The point has to be made that the district league provides a platform for athletes to showcase their skills, potentially attract scouts as well as national team selectors.
Though the current district tournament is not featuring female category, supporters are calling on the organizers to include Female Category next season.
According to Liberia Football Association LFA sub Association in Lofa County, this year district league was organized by the Local Authority with a called for the full involvement of the 5 Electoral District Representatives and citizens.
