River Gee County – Sept. 11, 2025 – The Bassa neighborhood in Fish Town is on the brink of an improvement with the upcoming construction of a mini market hall.
The project aims to boost local commerce and provide a more comfortable shopping environment for the community.
For years, vendors in the Bassa community neighborhood, especially women and children, have been selling in a makeshift market area in front of the Gee Foundation Elementary School without proper shelter.
The lack of a dedicated structure has made it challenging for these marketers, particularly during adverse weather conditions when they have to rely on temporary and inadequate shelters.
The initiative for this much-needed development is led by Isaac Boye Choloply Wuo, the elected representative for River Gee County’s second electoral district.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the district 2 lawmaker revealed that the project has an estimated budget of $30,000.
“This mini market hall will not only provide a safe and secure space for our vendors but will also promote the growth of local businesses by attracting more customers,” Wuo stated.
He highlighted the positive impact that the project is expected to bring to the community, transforming the current market into a well-organized and conducive trading environment.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Madam Comfort Rajah Toe, Superintendent of the Marketing Association River Gee branch, expressed gratitude to the district 2 lawmaker for initiating the project and urged for more support.
With the construction of this new market hall, the Fish-Town, Bassa community looks forward to a rejuvenated market space that will support local entrepreneurship and foster increased community involvement.
