Five Men Allegedly Gang Rape 21-Year-Old Woman on New Year Day in Lofa

Voinjama City-Five men have reportedly gang raped a 21-year-old woman in Zurzumai Town, Voinjama district. The incident occurred at 2:22 PM on January 1, 2026 during the new year’s celebration, according to police officials.

The Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) of the Liberia National Police (LNP) have arrested the five suspects who are currently being held at the women session of the LNP in Voinjama City. The suspects include James Y. Kollie age (18), Albert Thomas age (21), Prince Junior age (18), and Guwor Kollieson age (17).

Preliminary police’s investigation quotes the 21-years-old victim (name withheld) at saying that she was lured to a secluded area by a group of five young men during an early morning dance event on new year day.  

She alleged that James, one of the perpetrators slapped her before the group attacked her and took her to a nearby house believed to be owned by one Amos Kokulah, where she claimed she was sexually assaulted by multiple individuals.

All suspects denied their involvements during the police investigation. However, Albert Thomas informed the police that he had allowed Prince Junior, one of the suspects to be with the victim in a room in his friend’s house, but was unaware of the assault occurring inside.

The victim was later referred to Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital for further treatment, where medical reports suggest she was tempered with.

The five suspects have since been charged with rape and waiting court trial. Civil Society Organizations in Lofa County have condemned the act and called for speedy trial and prosecution.
