‎‎Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County- Monday, August 25, 2025 — Gbarpolu County Council has redirected 150,000 toward the initial phase of constructing the Gbarpolu County Stadium as part of preparations for the National County Sports Meet.‎‎

Council Chairperson Lucia Massaquoi noted that the funds were originally approved in the 2023 Development Sitting for the Bambu Town bridge project on the Bopolu–Monrovia highway but were not used because the bridge is on a primary road. ‎‎

The Ministry of Public Works has since rehabilitated the Bambu Town Bridge with iron reinforcements in preparation for paving toward Bopolu City.‎‎

The approved money will fund early stadium works, including fencing with concrete, construction and completion of VIP stands, dressing rooms for home and away teams, officials’ offices, and restrooms for spectators.

‎‎Local authorities say they have begun the procurement process to hire a contractor and aim to position Gbarpolu as a host county for the upcoming National County Sports Meet.

‎‎Earlier this year, the National County Meet’s organizer, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, selected Gbarpolu as the venue for Group B matches that include Montserrado and Bong Counties.‎‎The County Meet is an annual event that typically begins in December. ‎‎Further updates on procurement and project milestones are expected in the coming months.
