The Government of Liberia has resumed phase two of rehabilitation work on the Lofa Road. The first phase of the road rehabilitation commenced in April 2024, and was intended to repair critical spots on the road corridor. As the raining season set in, the government slowed down with the road rehabilitation-waiting to recommence during the dry season.
With the coming of the dry season, the government through the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has resumed full rehabilitation work on the Lofa Road. This initiative is intended to ensure year-round accessibility for travelers, according to officials of MPW.
The Lofa County Road, a crucial transportation artery connecting Guinea and Sierra Leone, has long posed challenges during the rainy season. Travelers and residents across the region faced significant difficulties in movement due to the poor condition of the road. Many sections became nearly impassable, causing delays, discomfort, and increased transportation costs.
Business people were particularly affected, as the movement of goods was severely hampered. The bad road conditions disrupted supply chains, limited access to markets, and led to financial losses.
