Sinje, Grand Cape Mounty County-Tuesday, October 14, 2025-Green Advocates International an environmental rights group has concluded two- today research and training focused on the work of land and environmental defenders in the context of climate change.
The participants consisted of land and environmental defenders who work as farmers, miners and fishermen and were drawn from 17 communities in Grand Cape Mount County; namely, Fanti town, Uptown, Kru Town all in Robertsport. In addition, Tosor, Sembehun, Taiylor, Sowee, Sawelor, Kru Beach in Tewor District as well as Nagbena, Wangekor, Gogoima, Masakpa, Bangorma, Weilor, Fornor and Kawelahun.
Those who attended the two day event, includes youths, men and women, as well as town, clan and paramount chiefs who reside in areas affected by coastal erosion and sea-level rise, as well as protected areas and areas affected by large-scale concession.
During the research and training, the participants were drilled on the criminal justice system including the issues of land rights and climate change amongst others.
Day one of the session held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, the participants were arranged into three groups from which they gave testimonies of their various communities about how they have been affected by the issue of climate change; with highlights on environmental pollution, the damaging of the forest, denying them access to their own farmlands, contamination of their various sources by the operation of the Bea Mountain Mining Companies and other Concession operating in their communities.
The research and training was led by GAI Program Director, Mr. Francis Colee and team members.
Mr. Colee assured the participants that the concerns raised by the participants, will be looked into seriously, but also encouraged them to try to adopt the new smart climate methods so they will be able to survive in the midst of climate change.
