Kolahun District Lofa County—In a landmark announcement, the Ministry of Health has declared Kolahun District Hospital as the champion of safe motherhood, recognizing it for achieving zero maternal deaths since February 2025. This significant achievement has been attributed to the dedicated efforts of the hospital staff and the cooperative spirit of the community.

The Ministry praised the hospital’s commitment to maternal health, highlighting the crucial role played by Medical Director Vamuyan Koroma. The community expressed their heartfelt appreciation for Koroma’s leadership, exceptional skills, and tireless work in establishing protocols that prioritize maternal safety and care.

Residents noted that reaching zero maternal deaths is no small feat; it requires a comprehensive approach involving meticulous healthcare practices, community education, and available resources—elements that the Kolahun District Hospital has successfully integrated since the beginning of this year. The honor bestowed upon the hospital reflects collective determination and hard work.

In response to the recognition, Medical Director Vamuyan Koroma expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and the citizens of the Gandi Chiefdom for their support.

“This achievement is not for me alone but for everyone involved at the hospital and the supportive community members who have championed our cause,” Koroma stated, acknowledging the importance of teamwork and the crucial role that community members play in ensuring maternal health and safety.

Doctor Koroma assured the citizens that he remains committed to maintaining the high standards that have led to this prestigious recognition.

“I will do everything in my power to ensure that Kolahun District Hospital continues to be a beacon of health excellence and safety for mothers and children,” he affirmed.

The declaration signifies a crucial milestone for maternal health in the region, inspiring other healthcare facilities to strive for similar standards. As Kolahun District Hospital sets the benchmark for safe motherhood, the commitment of both the medical staff and the community serves as a powerful reminder of the collective efforts needed to improve health outcomes for all.
