Gbarpolu County, Bopolu City -Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – In an effort to boost public health in Western Liberia, the Liberia Medical Mission, in collaboration with the Gbarpolu County health team, has commenced a week-long initiative providing free eye care services.
The program, led by Dr. Unity Fahn, kicked off on Monday at Emirates Hospital in Bopolu City, following a successful awareness campaign.
Local residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for eye screenings, with the team set to extend its reach to Bokomu on February 19, and Gbarma and Kongba Districts on February 20 and 21, respectively.
During an orientation meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Bopolu City, Dr. Fahn emphasized the importance of eye health and invited community members to participate in the screenings.
“We are committed to helping the people of Gbarpolu County prioritize their eye health,” Dr. Fahn stated.
She said, “After our screenings, we will return to Bopolu City from February 24-28 to offer free surgical services, including cataract surgeries, at Emirates Hospital.”

This initiative is not only a collaborative effort between local health authorities and the Liberia Medical Mission, but it also receives support from Liberians based in the Americas, who are dedicated to improving healthcare access in their home country.
As the team continues its mission across various counties, Dr. Fahn highlighted that this program is part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare services throughout Liberia.
Meanwhile, residents are urged to take advantage of these invaluable services to ensure their eye health is prioritized.
For more information, community members can visit Emirates Hospital or contact local health authorities.
