FISH TOWN, RIVERGEE–November 11, 2024–A team of Liberian Surgeons headed by Dr. Peter George has concluded a week-long medical mission in River Gee County, Southeast.

The free surgical mission ran from the 4th of November to the 9th of November 2024 and was done in collaboration with the Kun-Cares Foundation. Kun-Cares Foundation is owned and operated by Liberian Lawyer, Cllr. Kun Teh, a prominent son of River Gee County.

The medical mission provided free surgeries to citizens of the county especially those in critical condition and needed surgery, following screenings of patients. The surgeries took place at Fish-Town Referral hospital.

The team performed 50 surgeries each day of the five days mission. Cases treated include hernia hydrocele, growth, circumcision and issuance of eyeglasses to mainly motorcyclists.

This is the first time the Liberian Physicians and surgeons without border arrived in River Gee County on such medical mission despite being in other parts of the Liberia.

Speaking to the press, the head of the team, Dr. Peter George said every year the mission come to Liberia to perfume free surgeries for people with various medical conditions but have not reached to River Gee due to the distance and terrible road condition.

He said the team visited River Gee County through the support of the Kun-Cares Foundation’s Executive Director, Cllr. Kun Teh, as well as the Ministry of Health. “Cllr. Teh asked us to come to his county River Gee for surgical mission since we were already coming to Liberia. We accepted his proposal through the Health Ministry, but told him the intensive cost, including our movement from Monrovia to River Gee. He accepted all and today we are here to carry on surgeries. Every medical supply and equipment that we are using for these medical operations are all bought by the Cllr”, Said Dr. George.

The Chief Executive Director of the Kun-Cares Foundation, Cllr. Kun Teh, confirmed his support to the medical team in the county, but did not mention the attached cost. Cllr. Teh said his giving back to the county has no political intention but his foundation feels good in giving back as a son of River Gee.

Residents of River Gee County hailed Cllr. Teh for such an initiative and called on him to continue his kind gesture to the county.

In related development, the Kun-Cares Foundation has purchased a 500watt transmitter and other equipment worth over US$7,000 for Radio Webbo in River Gee County. The Community Radio has since been off the air for about a year now due to a lightning strike.
