Liberia’s 2026 Draft Budget Tabled at US$1.2 Billion

Monrovia, Liberia-Sunday, November 9, 2025- The Government of Liberia has officially presented the 2026 Draft National Budget to the House of Representatives.

The budget, valued at US$1.2 billion, was submitted by Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, to House Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon on November 7, 2025.

Minister Ngafuan stated that the draft budget reflects the government’s priorities to strengthen revenue generation and address key national expenditure needs. He noted that the budget was informed by the fiscal performance of the current year.

Speaker Koon commended the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for the timely submission and assured that the Legislature will commence immediate scrutiny through its Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance.

He requested additional copies of the draft budget to be distributed to all members for effective deliberation.

The review process is set to begin early next week, with the Legislature aiming to ensure that the budget is thoroughly examined and implemented effectively.

Meanwhile ,while citizens are upbeat with respect to the projected increase in the national budget; first of its kind for the national budget to reach a staggering 1 billion plus, it remains to be seen how and to what extent this massive improvement in the national envelope is expected to impact the livelihood of the general population as regards key development indicators relative to education, health, water and sanitation; electricity, food security and a host of other relevant development markers.
