Wilsonville, Trehn District, Grand Kru County |April 28, 2026 |A disturbing incident in Wilsonville, Trehn District, Grand Kru County has once again raised serious concerns about the resurgence of mob justice and unchecked violence in rural communities in that part of the country.
A 52-year-old man, Sunday Dorbor, is currently battling serious injuries after he was allegedly beaten and set on fire by a group of young men for refusing to play a drum at a local gathering.
What began as a simple request quickly escalated into brutal violence. Dorbor reportedly told the group he was too tired to play, a response that was interpreted as disrespect and deemed unacceptable to his victimizers. Within moments, the situation spiraled out of control.
According to the victim, a man identified as Debleh allegedly incited the attack, instructing others—including Blayon Dioh and Moses Doe—to carry out the assault.
The mob reportedly beat Dorbor mercilessly before attempting to burn him alive, leaving him with severe injuries.
The Liberia National Police have since intervened, arresting two suspects who are now in custody and have reportedly confessed. However, the alleged mastermind remains on the run, raising concerns about whether justice will be fully served.
This incident highlights a troubling pattern of mob actions taking the place of lawful dispute resolution, especially in remote parts of the country where traditional authority and informal groups often wield significant influence.
Dorbor is receiving treatment at a local health facility as police continue their investigation.
