Grand Kru, Liberia-Monday, October 13, 2025-The Director General Theodore Momo of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) is calling on concession companies, particularly Golden Veroleum Liberia, to align their operations with legal standards and fulfill their commitments to addressing workers’ grievances.
Momo emphasized that rather than facilitating concession agreements, the Bureau finds itself increasingly engaged in resolving conflicts, which undermines the primary objectives of the concessions themselves.
Speaking at a recent stakeholder’s dialogue in Barclayville, Momo pointed out the critical need for Golden Veroleum Liberia to be proactive in addressing welfare issues of employees and to resolve community-related concerns.
He cautioned that failure to adequately handle these matters could lead to ongoing “go-slow” actions among workers in the region, thereby disrupting operations.
“The stability of concession areas is pivotal for all stakeholders involved,” Momo stated, reiterating that both the management of Golden Veroleum and affected concession communities have a shared commitment to fostering an environment conducive to growth and cooperation.
He noted that the resolution of these grievances would serve the interests of the concession operators, local communities, the workforce, and ultimately, the nation.
The Director General also acknowledged the government’s continued commitment to provisional agreements forged with concession companies back in 2011.
He reassured stakeholders that the National Investment Commission (NIC) is actively reviewing all concession agreements to assess compliance and effectiveness.
This review aims to renegotiate terms that align with Liberia’s national development objectives, ensuring better accountability and resource management within the concessions.
Momo further underscored the significance of open dialogue among all parties involved, emphasizing the role of commitment and honesty in effectively addressing issues arising in concession areas.
He highlighted the importance of involving various sectors, including the Ministries of Health and Education, workers’ unions, and local county officials, to collaboratively identify critical issues and uphold the interests of both corporate and community stakeholders.
Theodore Momo’s called for collective responsibility and transparent dialogue serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding concession agreements in Liberia and the importance of stakeholder engagement in achieving mutual benefits.
