Grand Kru County, Liberia| Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025| In a renewed demonstration of government support for inclusive social welfare, the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has distributed food and relief items to persons living with physical challenges in Grand Kru County as part of its nationwide Christmas assistance program.
The donation, which targeted members of the disabled community, included 30 bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, and cartons of Vita milk, intended to provide temporary relief during the Christmas season.
Presenting the items, NLA Director for Marketing Kia Gee said the exercise underscores the Authority’s responsibility to ensure that vulnerable groups are not excluded from national development efforts.

“People living with disabilities must feel that they are part of this government,” Mr. Gee said. “This is why the National Lottery Authority is reaching out to all fifteen counties during this Christmas season.”
He explained that the intervention is grounded in the NLA’s public welfare mandate, which prioritizes assistance to disadvantaged citizens.
“Our responsibility goes beyond revenue generation,” he stated. “We are mandated to support vulnerable groups through public welfare initiatives, especially during periods like Christmas when many families struggle.”
Mr. Gee cautioned that the donated items were meant strictly for the benefit of persons with disabilities.
“These supplies are intended for the disabled community, and we expect them to be distributed fairly and used for their rightful purpose,” he emphasized.
He further noted that the donation symbolized the commitment of the national leadership to social inclusion.
“This gesture represents President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, and the NLA Board in sharing Christmas goodwill with vulnerable Liberians,” he added.
According to him, NLA is also advocating for long-term empowerment initiatives, including skills training and economic opportunities, to complement short-term relief efforts to people living with disabilities.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Daniel Karmbor, Head of the Grand Kru Disabled Association, welcomed the intervention and appealed for sustained support beyond seasonal programs.
“This assistance means a lot to us because many people with disabilities depend on help to survive,” Karmbor said. “We hope this will not only be during Christmas but continue throughout the year.”
Meanwhile, Grand Kru County Administrator Alphonso Teah described the donation as a reflection of inclusive governance.
“This is a clear sign that the government is committed to caring for all citizens, including those living with disabilities,” Administrator Teah said. “We encourage more programs that uplift and protect the vulnerable.”
