Grand Kru County —Thursday, Nov. 27,2025—One person is feared drowned at the Nyankupo crossing point between Sasstown and Dorbor District after a floater carrying seven passengers capsized on Tuesday November 24, 2025, according to eyewitness accounts from the area.

Sakagepo Weah, a resident of the District, reported that information coming from Lower Dorbor’s district headquarters in Nyankupo indicates that “one person was left in the water after the floater overturned.”

According to Weah, several travelers from Pleebo and surrounding communities had gathered at the crossing point earlier in the day. “They first decided to cross the human beings before crossing the motorbikes and the loads,” he explained, quoting sources at the scene.

Eyewitnesses said seven individuals boarded the floater, but while in the middle of the river, one side of the floater dipped suddenly into the water. “The seven of them jumped into the water immediately when they realized the floater was sinking,” Weah added.

According to eyewitnesses, of the seven passengers, four attempted to swim to safety, but three were unable to swim.

Community members and bystanders rushed to their aid. “Citizens tried their best to save the three people, but they were only able to rescue two because of the strong current of the river,” Weah narrated.

The third person, reportedly a traveler from Pleebo heading elsewhere, did not resurface.

“According to the people at the crossing Point in Nyankupo, one person remained under the water and has not been seen since,” Weah stated.

Local residents, along with concerned community members, have since launched a search operation, but the missing individual had not been found at the time of filing this report.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
