Subject: Addressing the Concerns of Rural Journalists
Dear President Julius Kullie Kanubah,
I am writing to express a deep concern regarding the “Dinner” organized by President Joseph N. Boakai, on April 10, 2025 which seemingly overlooked the vital contributions and needs of rural journalists in Liberia.
Mr. President, it is disheartening to witness a continued narrative that categorizes us, journalists in rural areas, as “Bush journalists.” This term not only undermines our professionalism but also the important work we do in ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard. Mr. PUL President, remember that our role is critical in the media landscape, and it is essential that we are included in discussions and events that shape the future of journalism in Liberia.
However, the Grand Kru Journalist’s Association calls for immediate action to address these disparities. We urge the Press Union of Liberia through your leadership to advocate for the rights and recognition of all journalists, regardless of their geographical location. It is imperative that our voices are included in national dialogues and that we are provided with the same opportunities and resources as our urban counterparts.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your support in fostering a more inclusive environment for all journalists in Liberia.

Thanks for this letter, but you have to be aware that this self proclaimed PUL president in Julius Kanubah has and will never consider us journalists outside of Montserrdo. These guys referred to us as “Bush Journalists” during Otavin Williams ‘ campaign and this continued to his’. (Kakubah). This is one reason why they did everything to hijack the leadership of the union. What took place yesterday was in his best interest.
