Chengbetee Town, Bolloh District, Grand Kru County | January 9, 2026 | A major breakthrough has been recorded in the long-standing murder investigation in Chengbetee Town, Bolloh District, Grand Kru County, as police authorities confirm that the prime suspect has confessed to the killing of a woman identified only as Rose.
According to the Liberia National Police, the suspect, Bobbyson Bobby, on Friday, January 9, 2026, admitted during police interrogation that he was responsible for the death of the deceased, whose body was earlier discovered in a bush along a road leading to a work site in the area.
In his statement to investigators, Bobbyson Bobby narrated that on December 15, 2025, while heading to his job site, he met Rose on the road and asked her where she was coming from. He claimed the deceased told him she had just come from his work place but did not meet him there.
The suspect further explained that he noticed Rose holding a one hundred Liberian dollars (LD$100) note and asked her to give him the money so he could buy liquor. He told police that the request was made jokingly, but Rose refused.
While attempting to collect the money, Rose reportedly pulled away, lost her balance, fell to the ground, and sustained a fatal injury to her neck.
Bobbyson Bobby said that upon realizing Rose was dead, he panicked and carried her lifeless body into a nearby bush.
He noted that he was overcome by fear and confusion, after he fled the area and traveled to his hometown in Nimba County, where he later reported himself to a local police detachment.
Police sources confirmed that the suspect was subsequently transferred back to Grand Kru County, where the alleged crime occurred, to assist investigators with the case.
Based on information gathered during the investigation, police authorities have resolved to charge Bobbyson Bobby with the crime of Murder, in violation of Section 14:1 of the New Penal Code of Liberia, pending court trial.
The confession brings a significant development to a case that previously sparked public outrage, protests, and tension in Chengbetee Town and surrounding communities, with residents demanding justice for the unidentified woman.
Police officials have assured the public that the case will be handled transparently and in accordance with the law as it proceeds to court.
