River Gee County-Thursday, June 5, 2025 – River Gee County senator, Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie has introduced a bill in the Liberian Senate calling for the establishment of the Liberia National Sports Fund Authority.
The bill is aimed at providing consistent financial support for the development of sports across Liberia.
When passed, the proposed legislation would create an agency responsible for overseeing the funds designated for promoting various sports, including football in the country.
According to Sogbie, the fund will be funded through a mixture of levies, government support, grants, and private donations.
To generate revenue for the authority, the bill proposes imposing taxes on certain consumer products such as apparel, cosmetics, footwear, and luxury vehicles.
The senator emphasized that the initiative is designed to reduce reliance on variable funding sources and ensure a stable, long-term commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure, training, and talent development on a national level.
The instrument is currently under review by Senate’s relevant committees as regard the contents of the bill.
