Barclayville, Grand Kru County [March 25, 2025] –Spancer FC, a talented soccer female team in Grand Kru County has been crowned champions of the 2023/2024 Women’s Lower League Season of the Grand Kru County Football Association.
The ceremony took place over the weekend at the Barclayville Open Air Sports Pitch in Grand Kru County.
According to our correspondent in the county, the event did not only celebrate the prowess of the players, but it also underscored the growing popularity and importance of women’s football within the south-eastern Liberian county.
Spancer FC clinched the championship title after a remarkable season, showcasing exceptional talents, teamwork, and determination both on and off the field.
The team’s journey to the top was marked by a series of impressive victories and sportsmanship capturing the hearts of fans throughout the principle streets of Barclayville.
The award ceremony brought together local dignitaries, sports officials, fans, and community members, all eager to celebrate the achievements of women’s football in Grand Kru County.
For them, the ceremony showed the significance of women in sports and the need for continual support and investment in women’s soccer league.
In recognition of Spancer FC’s triumph, Grand Kru County Gender Coordinator, Regina Walker on behalf of the county’s LFA, presented the team with a cash prize of $70.000.00 Liberian Dollars.

“This prize aims to not only reward their outstanding performance but also to encourage further development and opportunities in women’s football,” Madam Walker said.
For their part, the representatives of Spancer FC through their Captain Francilia Dortu expressed their gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the hard work and dedication of all players and coaching staff.
“We are honored to receive this award and appreciate the support from the Grand Kru County LFA. This recognition motivates us to strive for excellence and inspire the next generation of female footballers in our community,” Dortu said during her acceptance speech.
Also speaking, the acting chairman of the Grand Kru County LFA’s office, Dickson Weah vowed the commitment of the LFA to enhancing the framework for women’s football. He promised increasing visibility, providing better facilities, and creating more competitive opportunities for the game in the county.
According to Weah, the focus is not only on winning, but also on empowering women through sports, promoting health and wellness, and building strong social ties across the country.
The successful season for the champions marks a significant milestone in the evolution of women’s football in the county with a commitment to nurturing talent and providing a platform for female athletes. The local LFA official hopes that this achievement will inspire more girls to take up football and contribute to the legacy of women’s sports in Liberia.
Dickson added that, “LFA looks forward to continuing its support and facilitating the growth of women’s football in the county and that with hard work, dedication, and community backing, the sky is the limit for female athletes,”.
