Monrovia, Liberia |May 13, 2026 |Thousands of students across Liberia could benefit from improved internet access and digital learning opportunities as the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) strengthens efforts to expand technology access in schools and underserved communities.
The LTA announced a US$15,000 contribution toward the 2026 National Students Quizzing Competition during the official launch of the event in Monrovia, describing education and digital inclusion as important tools for national growth and youth empowerment.
LTA Chairperson Clarence K. Massaquoi said the authority remains committed to helping students gain access to digital resources that can improve learning and academic performance across the country.
“At the LTA, we believe empowering students through digital access is an investment in Liberia’s future,” Massaquoi said during the launch program.
According to the LTA, one of its major educational initiatives is the School Connect Initiative, which seeks to provide reliable internet connectivity to 156 public senior high schools nationwide.
The program is expected to help students and teachers gain access to online educational materials, research opportunities, and digital classrooms, especially in areas where access to information remains limited.
Massaquoi said the authority is also working through its Universal Access Program to expand internet services to rural and underserved communities where many young people still face difficulties accessing digital learning platforms.
He noted that the goal is to reduce the digital gap between students in urban areas and those living in remote parts of the country so that all students can compete academically under equal opportunities.
The National Students Quizzing Competition brings together high school students from across Liberia to test their knowledge in science, mathematics, current affairs, and other academic subjects.
The LTA’s support will assist with logistics, prizes, and nationwide participation in the competition.
The authority said it will continue collaborating with schools, communities, and development partners to strengthen digital literacy and make technology-based education more accessible for students throughout Liberia.
