Voinjama City, Lofa County |Dec. 15, 2025 | Lofa County defeated Grand Bassa County in the Football Category 3-1 in the National County Sports meet Group stage in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.

Lofa County is in Group C in this year 2025 group stage.

Defending champions Lofa County have sent a strong message in their opening match of the 2025 National County Sports Meet, defeating Grand Bassa County 3-1 at the Dorris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan on Sunday.

Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavelah Massaquoi on his private Facebook page wrote and said that due to some pertinent engagements, he couldn’t get to Bassa to witness the games.

Hon. J. Lavelah Massaquoi,Superintendent of Lofa County. He couldn’t be in Grand Bassa for his opening match against host Grand Bassa ,Buchanan City due pressing county matters.

“Due to my pressing engagement in our beloved Lofa County, I am unable to be in Grand Bassa with our Wologizi Boys and Girls, but with the presence of the Lofa County Sports steering Committee headed by Senator Momo T. Cyrus, all officials, stakeholders and our beloved citizens, I am of the conviction that our teams will make us proud today.

The County Local Administration is represented by the Finance Officer Hon. Makemeh Tawulleh in Grand Bassa County. Thank you Madam Tawulleh for the team work. Victory for Lofa!” Superintendent Massaquoi said on his private page before the game.

According to the county Superintendent, he wants Lofa County citizens to rally around the team to reclaim the trophy by all means necessary.

‎That said, the opening match saw an intense first half as both teams displayed attacking intent. Lofa struck first in the 18th minute when Andrew Taylor expertly broke through the Grand Bassa defense to give the visitors an early lead. Grand Bassa later, fiercely responded in the 25th minute with Augustine Dayougar leveling the score and sending the home crowd into a frenzy jubilation.

‎In the second half, Grand Bassa pushed forward in search of another equalizer, but defensive lapses proved costly when Darius Garmondeh struck again in the 50th minute, completing his brace and extending Lofa’s lead to 3-1.

‎Lofa’s defensive organization frustrated Grand Bassa for the remainder of the match, denying them any clear scoring chances and sealing a comfortable opening-day victory.

‎The win puts defending champions Lofa County in a strong position as they prepare for their next fixture against Grand Gedeh County, while Grand Bassa will look to regroup ahead of their clash with Grand Cape Mount County.
