Gbarnga, Bong County–Survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s Safe Home in Bong County, on October 3, 2025, received food and essential sanitary items from Menleleh Incorporated. Menleleh is community-based organization operating in Gbarnga.
Items donated include five bags of rice, two three-gallon containers of vegetable oil, six packs of Vita, five dozen toothbrushes, three dozen medicated soaps, five dozen rolls of tissue, two dozen tubes of toothpaste, cartons of Clorox, and two dozen packs of sanitary pads, among other items. The donation, officials of Menleleh said is aimed at easing the challenges faced by the Safe Home.
Pokai Kofi Brown, an executive of Menleleh Incorporated, revealed that the initiative was in response to a formal request from the Bong County Gender Coordinator, channeled through the organization’s partner, Forum CIV.
“We received a request from the Gender Coordinator through Forum C seeking assistance for the Safe Home. Although we couldn’t meet every need, we decided to provide food and sanitary items to support the survivors,” Brown said.
He added that the gesture, though modest, demonstrates Menleleh’s ongoing commitment to standing in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence.
“Someone once said, ‘This may be the widow’s mite,’ but we believe it will make a difference. We also want to encourage other partners and individuals to contribute. The Safe Home should be a place of comfort and recovery, and that requires collective effort,” he emphasized.
Receiving the items, Madam Musu Mulbah, Bong County Gender Coordinator, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Menleleh Incorporated for their timely intervention. She highlighted the severe shortage of basic resources, particularly food and sanitary materials, which continues to affect the facility’s operations.
“These items are very important because, without food, we cannot keep survivors at the Safe Home. We currently have a serious case that requires shelter, but we’ve been struggling due to limited supplies. This donation will greatly help us manage the situation,” Madam Mulbah stated.
She further commended Menleleh Incorporated for its consistent collaboration with the Ministry and unwavering support toward GBV survivors in Bong County.
“This is not the first time Menleleh has supported us. They’ve always been a reliable partner, and we truly appreciate their compassion and consistency,” she added.
Safe Homes across Liberia, including the one in Bong County, play a vital role in the country’s protection system. They provide temporary shelter, counseling, medical care, and legal assistance to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), helping women and girls recover from trauma and rebuild their lives. However, the lack of sustainable funding and basic supplies continues to threaten their operations.
Madam Mulbah concluded by urging more organizations and individuals to emulate Menleleh’s humanitarian example.
“Gender issues are not one person’s business; they are everyone’s business. Together, we can make Bong County a safer and more supportive place for survivors,” she said.
