Barclayville City, Grand Kru County- Sunday, November 23, 2025 – A technical assessment team from the Ministry of Public Works has arrived in Grand Kru County to begin the process of identifying land for the construction of a new county maintenance hub.
The delegation, led by Assistant Minister for Community Services Albert Toukolon, is part of the government’s broader initiative to rebuild and strengthen maintenance hubs across Liberia—many of which have remained damaged or non-functional for several years.
“We are here to ensure that Grand Kru benefits from the government’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure,” Assistant Minister Toukolon explained. “Our goal is to make the Ministry more proactive and responsive in addressing road-related challenges throughout the country.”
According to him, the new maintenance center will serve as a central storage and distribution point for essential yellow machines used for road construction and maintenance. He emphasized that these machines—once deployed—will significantly enhance mobility, improve road quality, and stimulate economic activities in Grand Kru County and beyond.
In an exclusive interview, Mr. Toukolon disclosed that the Ministry plans to introduce a training program for local residents once the hub is completed. “This training will prepare young people in Grand Kru to operate and maintain the equipment,” he noted. “It will create jobs and reduce the need to bring in machine operators from outside the county.”
The working visit is being carried out in partnership with the Liberia Land Authority.
Assistant Minister Toukolon revealed that Land Administrator David Togba is supervising the verification and formalization of the land space designated for the project.
He described this collaboration as crucial to ensuring transparency and proper documentation.
Mr. Toukolon assured residents that the government is making steady progress in improving the county’s infrastructure.
He added that the yellow machines, once stationed in Grand Kru, will not only support road work but could also assist with agricultural activities to boost local productivity.
He praised the cooperation of local authorities and community members during the assessment visit. “The support from the people of Grand Kru has been exceptional,” he said. “We remain committed to strengthening transportation networks across the country.”
The Assistant Minister commended the Government of Liberia for its continuous efforts in maintaining major road corridors nationwide, describing the initiative as a critical investment in national development.
