Tubmanburg, Bomi County-The City Corporation of Tubmanburg headed by Mayor of Mohammed Sheriff, has embarked on road rehabilitation efforts across the city.
The road rehabilitation exercise commenced on Sunday, November 2, 2025, giving hope to many residents in the city after years of neglect of community roads.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend, Mayor Sheriff confirmed that the rehabilitation work which resumed recently is already making progress in key communities in Harmon Hill, Joseph Town, Mary Meals Road, and Gballasuah, among others.
“We’ve restarted the rehabilitation process because our people deserve better roads,” Mayor Sheriff said. “The Ministry of Public Works provided us with the machine, and I’m personally mobilizing fuel support from friends and partners. I’m also taking care of the operators’ feeding and compensation from my own pocket.”
A Community-Driven Effort
Tubmanburg’s road network has been in a deplorable state for years, with residents frequently calling on local authorities to intervene. Many citizens have now hailed the mayor’s renewed commitment as a timely move that could ease transportation burdens, especially as the dry season approaches.
“This is what we’ve been asking for,” said a resident of Harmon Hill. “When it rains, our area becomes almost impassable. Seeing the machines working again gives us hope.”
Mayor Sheriff emphasized that the ongoing rehabilitation is only the first phase of a broader infrastructure agenda aimed at modernizing Tubmanburg’s roads and enhancing economic activity within the city.
A Vision for Concrete Roads
In a major announcement, Mayor Sheriff revealed that his administration is developing a concrete road construction proposal; a plan he believes could transform Tubmanburg’s infrastructure and offer a sustainable alternative to traditional laterite roads that deteriorate easily.
“Concrete roads are the future for Tubmanburg,” Sheriff explained. “They last longer, require less maintenance, and will save the city money in the long run.”

According to him, once finalized, the proposal will be presented to County Superintendent Miatta Dorley for review before submission to the Bomi County Legislative Caucus for funding consideration.
Durability, Development, and Determination
Mayor Sheriff underscored that the use of concrete is not just a construction choice but a development strategy aimed at ensuring that roads remain accessible all year round, boosting trade, transportation, and service delivery.
The mayor’s renewed push for infrastructure development is part of a wider local government effort to improve living conditions and create an enabling environment for business growth in the county capital.
“We want Tubmanburg to reflect progress,” Sheriff added. “Better roads mean better lives, more business opportunities, and stronger community connections.”
A Step Toward a Better Tubmanburg
As the rehabilitation work continues and plans for the concrete road proposal advance, many residents are expressing cautious optimism, hopeful that this new phase of local leadership will bring lasting change.
For now, the sound of heavy machinery pounding red soils in Tubmanburg’s neighborhoods is a welcome reminder that progress, though gradual, is finally rolling forward.
