Monrovia, Capitol Hill- Sunday, August 31, 2025 – The University of Liberia (UL) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a milestone joint strategic collaboration on Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Innovation, Tech, Research, and Strategic Plan Development and Support.
The signing ceremony was held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in President Maparyan’s Capitol Hill office in Monrovia. .
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines the terms of the partnership, including the roles and responsibilities of both parties. According to the Project Document, UNDP will serve as the implementing partner, and close consultations will be held between UL and UNDP on all aspects of the project.
UL will be responsible for carrying out all activities in accordance with its financial regulations, rules, and other directives, consistent with UNDP’s financial regulations and rules.
Upon signature of the MoU, UNDP will make payments to UL according to the schedule of payments specified in the instrument.
“One of the most memorable moments of my inauguration day was when you came up to me in the parking lot after my inauguration speech and you said, I want to work with you, I think there are some great things we can do together.” UL President Dr. Maparyan mentioned.
For his part, UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia said once the MOU has been entered into and signed, the next step is implementation., adding “That there, we are where to make the difference.”
Meanwhile, UL Vice President for Institutional Development and Planning Prof. Weade Kobbah Boley thank Mr. Dia for the partnership with the University, express gratitude to President Maparyan for the support and for being in touch with everything.
In the same vein, the UNDP Resident Representative expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy for the University of Liberia during his time in the country.
The partnership is expected to contribute to the development of Liberia’s human capital and promote innovation and technological advancement in the country.
