The Voinjama City Corporation and Wologizi Eco Brigade Inc. on Saturday, November 2025, 2025 collaborated to implement the first Saturday’s mandate by conducting cleaning up exercise in some quarters and major streets in Voinjama City.

The two groups cleanup major streets and quarters including Mandingo Quarter, near St. Joseph Catholic School and other places that are often used as dumping sites.

During the exercise, the team cleared one of the largest dumpsites in the area, improving sanitation and community safety. The Eco Brigade through one of its executives. Joseph F. Bundoo, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting environmental stewardship and youth participation in keeping Voinjama clean and green.

Authorities of VCC headed by Mayor Pandora C. Zayzay praised the group’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between youth and local government in building sustainable communities.

The first Saturday of each month is wildly observed in Liberia as general cleaning up day for communities and private homes.

The day was set aside by former City Mayor of Monrovia, Mary Broah during the regime of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Since then, the day has been observed by almost all cities in Liberia as half-holiday at which time businesses remained closed from 6:00am-10:00am to allow residents clean up their environment and private homes before the start of day.

The Voinjama City Cooperation VCC is one of the city cooperation that normally implement the “Mary Broah” half-holiday. In this year’s observance of the first Saturday, the Wologizi Eco Brigade Inc., a nonprofit Youth-led volunteer organization involved in environmental stewardship, Agriculture and Small Businesses (VLSA), joined the VCC in the cleaning up exercise of major streets and quarters.
