Kolba City, Kolahun District-A 35-year-old woman identified as Sangai Sowah has been arrested by the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) for being in possession of substantial quantity of marijuana worth an estimated price of LD$45,000. Officers of the LDEA discovered the illegal substance at the resident of Sangai Sowah on Thursday, October 10, 2024, where she was arrested and sent to prison pending court trial.
During an interview with the press, Sangai admitted of being in possession of marijuana, but claimed it belongs to her friend, Sambeh Mento, who is said to be on the run. “I was only keeping it for my friend to sell,” she explained, as she broke down in tears and pleaded for mercy.
Sangai Sowah further revealed that she had previously been involved in the sale of drugs but decided to stop after her mother advised her to quit such a business. “I have no husband to support me, and I cannot have children,” Sangai lamented, saying lack of finances led her back into illegal activities.
The Commander of the Lofa County Chapter of the LDEA, Kpehe Lomax, confirmed the discovery of the drugs at the home of Sangai Sowah, and stressed the importance of community vigilance in fighting against illicit drugs in the region. “We are working hard to make Lofa free from drugs, and we need the help of the public help,” said Commandeer Lomax.
Sangai Sowah remains in custody, awaiting court trial as LDEA continues efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the area.
