Principle & Core Values:
As an independent media organization, we adhere to these principles and values as enshrined below:
Trust and Credibility: Truthful and accurate reporting helps us build trust with our audience. Look, when readers, viewers or listeners believe that a news source consistently provides accurate information, they are more likely to rely on that source for news and information.
Accountability: As a 4th estate institution, we have the responsibility to firstly hold ourselves, individuals, organizations, and government accountable for their actions. Besides, accurate reporting helps ensure that those in power are held to account for their stewardship; decisions and behaviors.
Informed Public: Our journalism cum news reporting requires that we play a crucial duty of keeping the public informed about important events, issues, and developments. Inaccurate or false information can mislead the public thus leading to misunderstandings, confusion, and potentially harmful decisions.
Accuracy: For us accuracy is the nerve center of what we do! It is an important ethical guideline. Accuracy is different from truth. Truth in journalism is very cardinal and sacrosanct; it means that a report is based on facts. But accuracy means that our journalists have the responsibility to check to see whether or not the facts are true or otherwise.
Democracy and Civic Engagement: We work to advance democracy and constructive civic engagement cum dialogue. It is worth mentioning that a well-informed public is essential for a well-functioning democracy. True and accurate journalism provides that the information that citizens need to make informed decisions, participate in civic life, and hold their elected representatives accountable must be bias-free, un-diluted and sacrosanct.
Ethical Responsibility and Facts-telling: Journalists have professional and ethical responsibility to report the truth to the best of their ability. Failing to uphold this responsibility can damage the reputation of the journalist, the news organization, and the profession as a whole.
Social Cohesion and Development: Inaccurate or misleading information can contribute to social division, confusion, and conflict. Truthful and accurate reporting helps promote social cohesion by providing a common set of facts and information that can be used as a basis for discussion and debate thus positively impacting sustainable development.
Legal and Reputational Risks: Publishing false information can expose our reporters/journalists and news organizations to legal risks, such as defamation lawsuits or physical abuse. Inaccurate reporting can also damage the reputation of reporters and news outlets like ours; making it more complex for them to be taken seriously in the future.
Objectivity, Impartiality and Independence: These referred to our quality or state of being objective; lack of favoritism toward one side or another. In addition, freedom from bias and giving everyone equal treatment of all rivals or disputants. Also, we are committed to remaining free from all influences. To conclude, objectivity is our mindset for doing our work and independence is how we get work done.
Respect for All:
We do understand and appreciate the dignity of all persons with whom we interact daily especially, in our lines of duty. We try as much as possible to internalize the concept that all people deserve the right to fully exercise their autonomy.
When we report the news, we commit to: clarity, coherence, control and credibility at all times.
