School Founded Over 60 Years Ago Gains High School Status in River Cess County

RIVER CESS – The Neegba Junior High School, a public institution of learning founded over 60 years ago in River Cess County, has been elevated to the senior high level, making it River Cess County’s fourth senior high school.

In a bid to make secondary education accessible and affordable in Yarnee District, River Cess County, the county’s school system recently elevated to the senior public high school level, the Neegba Junior High School, which was founded in 1957.

This is the second academic transitional of the institution since its formation, as the Neegba Public School, originally established as an elementary school, was previously transitioned to the junior high level before it recently gained full high school status beginning with the 2024-2025 academic year.

Between 2015 and 2017, the River Cess County School System elevated the Neegba Public School to a semi-senior high level up to Grade 10 but was later relegated to the junior high level due to the lack of qualified teachers.

Authorities say the move to elevate the school to a senior high status was predicated upon a decision to put an end to risks students faced daily in commuting in canoes over the dangerous Cestos River to get to the Cestos High School.

The elevation of the Neegba Public School to a full high school status has brought to an end the long-running challenges regarding the completion of secondary education previously faced by students and parents in that part of River Cess County, according to some residents and citizens of the area. Until the Neegba Public School’s recent elevation, River Cess County had three senior high schools including the Yarpah Public School, Cestos High School, in the capital, Cestos City, and a faith-based institution operated by the Green Pastures School System.
