    Bomi Government Hospital Gets Enhanced Maternity, Neonatal Wards

    Tubmanburg -July 24, 2025-The Government run hospital in Tubmanburg, Bomi County has benefited from an improved maternity and neonatal wards. The facilitates, dedicated on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, were upgraded by President Joseph Boakai and his wife, Kartumu Boakai.

    The hospital serves as a vital healthcare hub for three counties: Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu.

    First Lady Kartumu Boakai said the renovation was a self-initiated project by her office and made possible through collaborations with individuals, institutions, and partners. She described the facilities as “beyond renovation,” highlighting the extensive work done to transform the wards into modern and well-equipped facilities.

    Madam Boakai pleaded with the government to allocate budget for the Office of the First Lady to enable her implement initiatives/projects aimed at improving the lives of Liberians. She noted that her office has not been factored into the national budget since she took over.

    Making remarks at the program, President Boakai expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the First Lady’s office, the Bomi County leadership, and the Ministry of Health for their collaborative efforts in bringing the renovation project to fruition. He praised the team’s dedication and commitment to improving healthcare services in the region.

    The President also urged citizens to take good care of the facility, emphasizing that maintenance of public facilities is a significant challenge in Liberia. He stressed the importance of community ownership and responsibility in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the renovated wards.

    Upgraded maternity & neonatal unit

    The President assured the people of Bomi County that the renovation is just the beginning of more developments to come.

    Health Minister Dr. Louis Kpoto praised the office of the First Lady for its efforts in renovating hospitals and promoting health awareness and reforms in the heath sector, referencing the Liberian Government Hospital (LGH) in Tubmanburg as an example of the reform.

    ‎Dr. Kpoto indicated that the First Lady’s office has been instrumental in championing maternal and neonatal cases, stating that the renovation at the LGH in Bomi is a testament to the impact of collaborative efforts between the government and other stakeholders.

    In a related development, Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu has pledged twelve (12) air conditioners to support the hospital’s operations. Ambassador Yin said the donation of air conditioners is part of China’s broader efforts to support Liberia’s development goals, stating that China has been actively involved in various initiatives in Liberia, including healthcare infrastructure development and economic cooperation.

    The upgrading of the maternity and neonatal wards marks a crucial step towards improving maternal and child health in the region.

    With modern facilities and equipment, healthcare professionals will be better equipped to provide quality care to patients, reducing illness and mortality rates.
