Monrovia, Liberia |May 15, 2026|The Ministry of Youth and Sports officially launched the National Cadet Program in Gbarnga, Bong County, bringing together more than 1,000 young people from across Liberia’s 15 counties.
Speaking at the launch, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan encouraged the cadets to remain hopeful and committed to contributing to Liberia’s development.
“Liberia is moving forward, not backward,” he told the audience during the program.
The Finance Minister highlighted programs that are focused on young people, including the National Cadet Program, the Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank, and the relocation of the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Center to Liberia.
According to Ngafuan, these initiatives are intended to create opportunities for youth and help prepare them for leadership and employment in the future.
Using a simple example to explain national development, he compared Liberia’s progress to a long journey from Redlight to Gbarnga.
“In two years, three months, and 24 days, we may not have reached Gbarnga yet, but we are no longer at Redlight,” he said.
The event was attended by government officials, development partners, parents, and community members who gathered to support programs aimed at helping young Liberians build skills and prepare for future opportunities.
