The Dean of Academic Affairs at the Grand Kru Technical College (GKTC), Pius Doe, has called on the national government to prioritize the establishment of a main campus for the institution. Dean Deo said he wants a campus that will uplift the educational landscape and empower future generations in Grand Kru County.
The plea, made during a recent interview with our Grand Kru County Correspondent, underscores the pressing need for enhanced infrastructure that accommodates the growing student population in need of quality technical education.
The Dean for Academic Affairs emphasized that a well-equipped main campus is vital for improving the quality of education and providing students with the necessary resources to develop practical skills. “Our college has been operating with limited facilities, which hampers our ability to deliver modern technical training,” said Doe. “With the support of the national government, we can transform GKTC into a leading institution that can empower our youth and enhance the skills of the workforce in Grand Kru and beyond.”
Pius Doe highlighted that the lack of proper classrooms and laboratories limits the hands-on learning experiences that are crucial in technical education, highlighting the benefits the main campus could bring to the County. “Investing in education is investing in the future of our children and our community. A main campus would not only provide better educational opportunities but also create jobs and stimulate local economic growth,” he explained.
He appeals by urging stakeholders, through the Grand Kru legislative caucus, including local government officials and community leaders, to rally behind the initiative. “We must work together to advocate for the resources and support we need. I urge our national leaders to recognize the potential of Grand Kru Technical College and to take action now,” he said passionately.
The Grand Kru Technical College operates with several temporary structures including the Barclayville central high school facilities that do not adequately meet the needs of its diverse programs.
The local college offering two years Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees in seven major disciplines which includes; Health Sciences, Education, Engineering and Computer Technology, Agriculture, Business, Natural Sciences and Communication and Media Studies, respectively.
