Beijing, China – Liberia’s Assistant Minister for Mines, Carlos Edison Tingban, has hailed the just-ended Training Course on Mine Rescue for Belt and Road Countries as a transformative milestone for Liberia’s mine safety standards.

The intensive 14-day program organized by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), brought together Liberian and international participants for hands-on training focused on mine workers’ safety.

‎‎Addressing participants during the closing ceremony, Assistant Minister Tingban expressed deep gratitude on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, commending China’s extraordinary hospitality and commitment to knowledge exchange.

‎ “This journey ignited far more than knowledge within us. We leave with vital lessons, proven strategies, and an unshakable resolve to transform Liberia’s mine safety systems,” Tingban noted.

‎During the program, Liberian delegates garnered advanced knowledge in mine safety at the Academy of Safety Science and Technology, where they explored proactive cutting-edge rescue technologies, modern monitoring systems, and innovative mine safety techniques. The delegation also visited major mining equipment manufacturers like SANY and TIANMI, gaining firsthand insights into best practices.

‎Assistant Minister Tingban pledged Liberia’s commitment to act immediately on the lessons learned, saying; “We will institute improved mine monitoring, early warning, and proactive rescue procedures without delay, transforming our mines into sanctuaries that protect lives and empower communities”.

‎He underscored that the partnership between Liberia and China sets a new standard for mine safety cooperation, emphasizing that shared purpose forges unbreakable bonds. Tingbah further stated that the future of Liberia-China collaboration in mine safety doesn’t only shine, but sheds a brighter light potentially filled with endless possibilities.

‎The training course combined theoretical learning with practical exercises in simulated mining environments. It is expected that the outcomes of the initiative will significantly bolster Liberia’s capacity to prevent mining accidents and improve emergency responses.

‎As Liberia moves forward, the Ministry of Mines and Energy affirms its readiness to apply these lessons immediately, advancing Liberia’s mine safety standards and strengthening the country’s bilateral relations with China, according to a dispatch.
