MONROVIA – A nationwide sports jamboree for high school students, under the auspices of an organization with international flare, the National High School Sports, gets underway in Lofa Monday, 21 July 2025, Rural Reporters News Network (RRNN), has reliably gathered.

The National High School Sports organized nationwide sports tournament has been divided into five regions, with high schools within Lofa paired in Region-1 along with high schools from Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu.

In Region-2, Bong, as the host county is grouped with schools from Nimba, Grand Bassa, Margibi, while Montserrado is Region-3, with schools within the county poised to battle against each other in the regional stage of the tournament.

Sinoe, is host of Region 4, paired along with River Cess and Grand Kru, while Grand Gedeh, as host of Region-5, is in a group with two other counties, Maryland and River Gee.

In its football and kick-ball categories, the tournament gets underway in Lofa Monday 21 July, and is expected to run thru 22, 23, 24, 25, and 30 July, at four venues including Zorzor, Voinjama, Foya, and Kolahun.

In Lofa County, the tournament, which is in its primary phase, is an integral component of a three-stage tournament across the country, namely; County High School Championship, Regional Championship, and National Championship, organizers of these events told RRNN.

Thirteen high schools in Lofa County including the Zorzor Central High School, St. Joseph Catholic Mission High School, and Voinjama Multilateral High School, and Voinjama Free Pentecostal Mission School, will participate in the six-day tournament.

Other school teams expected to participate are the Assembly of God Mission School, Salayea Central High School, Free Pentecostal Global Mission School, Kolahun Central High School, and Bolahun Public School.

Winners in the kickball and football categories of the Lofa County High School Championship will receive cash prizes and advance to the second stage of the tournament, the Regional Championship, to be played later in Voinjama.

Meanwhile, high school champion teams from Bomi, Cape Mount, and Margibi Counties will travel to Voijama, the capital of host county Lofa, to participate in the Regional Championship for Sports Region-1.

National High School Sports, organizer of the nationwide schools tournament, will bear the cost of transportation, feeding, and accommodation of champions of high school teams traveling to Voinjama during the Regional Championship.

In Voinjama, the school winning the Regional Championship will advance to the final stage of the tournament, the National Championship, to be played in Montserrado County.

The organizer of these events, the National High School Sports , which has collaborated with several partners including Global Fund/National Malaria Control Program, WaterAid Liberia, UNESCO, Central Bank of Liberia, Liberia Telecommunications Authority, and the WASH Commission, organized Liberia’s the first-ever nationwide high school football and kickball championships in 2017.

This nationwide sports platform is also used by partners to conduct awareness or disseminate information to a strategic youth demography.Β
