In a move to strengthen and institutionalize journalism and media governance across Liberia, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has released its first batch of appointments of the Sub-chapter leadership in nine out Liberia’s 15 political sub-divisions.
In a statement released to the press Tuesday, the Union indicated that the appointments, covering Bomi, Bong, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Maryland, and Nimba, reflect inclusive leadership in each county, spanning competence, qualifications, experience, gender, age, and good moral standing.
In appointing the PUL County Sub-chapter leadership, the Union’s President, Julius Kanubah, urged those appointed to serve with distinction, integrity, and dignity to make the PUL more credible and responsive to the needs of journalists, media institutions, and other social institutions or actors.
Under Policy Measure Number Two of the PUL, the Sub-chapter serves as the principal Office of the PUL in the County and the umbrella organization for all journalists, media practitioners, communication practitioners, media institutions or organizations, and media-related associations in the County.
The Sub-chapter is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the effective and smooth functioning of the PUL at the county level concerning freedom of the press, free speech and expression, journalists’ rights and welfare, capacity building, and ethical matters.
In Bomi County, those appointed include Richard Williams, County Coordinator; Peter Darblo, Deputy Coordinator; William Kromah, Secretary-General; Gabriel M. Parker, Assistant Secretary; and Ukera Tarpeh, Financial Secretary.
Those appointed to the Bong County PUL Sub-chapter leadership are Nathan T. Mathews, Jr., County Coordinator; Olando Kolliemelling, Deputy Coordinator; J. Peter S. Dennis, Secretary-General; Melvin Siakor, Assistant Secretary-General; and Abigail Tennie, Financial Secretary.
For Gbarpolu County, PUL Sub-chapter will now be headed by Dougba K. McCay, as County Coordinator; Samuel M. King, Deputy Coordinator; Rachelle Kanneh, Secretary-General; Solomon Tayblah, Assistant Secretary-General; and Bendu Dennis, Financial Secretary.
Jenkins Mabande now heads the PUL County Sub-chapter leadership in Grand Cape Mount, as County Coordinator; assisted by Jenneh Kemokai, as Deputy Coordinator; followed by Tommy Sondo, Secretary-General; James V. Bono, Assistant Secretary; and Watta K. F. Badah, Financial Secretary.
The PUL Grand Gedeh County Sub-chapter leadership comprises Esther N. Scott, County Coordinator; Gabriel Youtee, Deputy Coordinator; Jackson Dunner, Secretary-General; Victor Gowah, Assistant Secretary-General; and Grace Wea, Financial Secretary.
For Margibi County, members of the PUL Sub-chapter leadership are Christiana Sonpon, County Coordinator; Dee-Sinoe Howard, Deputy Coordinator; Boakai T. Mabey, Secretary-General; Richard A. Kaine, Assistant Secretary-General; and Christine Sajery, Financial Secretary.
In Maryland County the PUL Sub-chapter leadership is headed by Michael D.K. Wroh, as County Coordinator; assisted by Moses Geply, as Deputy Coordinator; Moses Dawoe, Secretary-General; Patrick Donyen, Assistant Secretary-General; and Prosper Gray, Financial Secretary-General.
Finally, for Nimba County, the PUL has in its Sub-chapter leadership Christopher Fahn, as County Coordinator; Jerome Saye, Deputy Coordinator; Ruth Jeffery, Secretary-General; Timothy Weah, Assistant Secretary-General; and Ketoria Karmehn, Financial Secretary.
Meanwhile, appointments for outstanding counties including Grand Bassa, Grand Kru, Lofa, River Cess, River Gee, and Sinoe, will follow in due course, according to the PUL’s statement signed by its President Julius Kanubah.
