River Gee County, Liberia |May 31, 2026|About 343 senior secondary students from seven qualified high schools in River Gee County are expected to sit the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) beginning in early June.
The students come from schools located in the educational districts of Webo, Potupo, and Gbeapo.
Education authorities say the candidates have already registered with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia to participate in the regional examination.
The participating schools include four public high schools, two private schools, and one faith-based institution.
The schools are Webo High School, Tweh Jaiklay High School, Fish-Town Community Junior and Senior High School, Gbeapo Multilateral High School, Rev. Henry T. Keah High School, United Methodist High School, and Kelvin Sorem High School.
School administrators say Gbeapo Multilateral High School recorded the highest number of registered candidates this year, with 119 students expected to sit the examination.
Tweh Jaiklay High School in Fish Town follows with 93 registered candidates, making it the second-highest contributor to the county’s WASSCE enrollment for 2026.
Other schools also recorded encouraging numbers. Fish-Town Community Junior and Senior High School registered 42 students, Kelvin Sorem High School registered 34, United Methodist High School registered 23, Rev. Henry T. Keah High School registered 17, and Webo High School registered 15 candidates.
Education stakeholders say the increase in student participation reflects growing interest in secondary education across River Gee County.
Many residents see the larger enrollment as a positive sign for the future of education in the county.
Officials noted that complete gender statistics are still being compiled because some schools have not yet submitted detailed male and female enrollment figures.
Community leaders and educators are hopeful that students will perform well during the examination period.
They believe continued support for schools and students will help improve educational opportunities across the county.
The 2026 WASSCE is expected to officially begin on June 1, 2026, under the supervision of the West African Examinations Council Liberia.
Residents say the examination represents an important step for students preparing for higher education and future careers.
