Tubmanburg–Capitol Building: The Liberian Senate, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, deliberated on the appalling condition of the Bomi Junior High School in Tubmanburg following a briefing from Bomi County Senator, Edwin Melvin Snowe.

On January 22, 2026, educational authorities of Bomi County appealed to Senator Snowe to renovate the Bomi Bomi Junior High School, which has been compelled to relocate to the C. H. Dewey High School auditorium due to poor facility.

In an apparent response, the Senate on January 22, 2026, discussed the matter on the floor following a presentation by Senator Snowe.

In a presentation to his colleagues, Senator Snowe described the learning environment as deplorable and unsafe, noting that the condition of the campus has forced authorities to shut down the facility and relocate academic activities to the C. H. Dewey High School auditorium.

The senator called on the Senate Committees on Education, Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget to urgently intervene, stressing that the situation undermines students’ right to quality education.

According to him, it is both embarrassing and unacceptable that a public junior high school located just outside Monrovia remains in such a state of neglect.

“This situation is deeply troubling,” Senator Snowe told plenary. “Our children deserve better learning conditions.”

Meanwhile, the Senate session also heard concerns affecting local governance in the county. Klay District Commissioner, Momo Seh, expressed disappointment over what he described as extremely low salaries for local officials, revealing that commissioners reportedly take home US$85 and LD$6,000

In response, Senator Snowe challenged officials of the Ministry of Finance, arguing that the salaries of civil servants are highest than many county officials – including Commissioners and Chiefs.

He subsequently called for a comprehensive audit of the national payroll system to reflect the real earnings of civil servants and ensure fair labor compensation.
