Grand Kru—Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa has expressed deep concerns over the deteriorating road conditions in the Southeast, particularly Grand Kru County. Senator Bartekwa attributed ongoing sufferings of the citizens of the county primarily to infrastructural challenges, mainly bad road network. He spoke on November 12, 2024 when he addressed the press at his Barclayville’s residence.

The Grand Kru County Senator referenced the deplorable road conditions between Barclayville to Pleebo and Barclayville to Sinoe county as two main routes that are nearly impassable to vehicular movement.

Senator Bartekwa stressed the urgent need for improved road networks in the Southeastern Region, which he believes are vital for economic development and the overall well-being of local residents.

He emphasized that the poor state of the roads not only hampers mobility but also restricts access to essential services, including healthcare delivery and education. “The roads in Grand Kru are in a deplorable state, and it is the citizens who are bearing the brunt of this neglect. We cannot expect to foster growth and development when our communities are cut off from basic services due to bad roads,” he stated.

Senator Bartekwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions of its citizens, noting ongoing discussions with relevant authorities especially with President Joseph Boakai and partners are yielding some positive results.

He assured constituent members that he would continue to advocate for the necessary resources to address the urgent infrastructure needs. “The government is aware of the challenges we face, and I am committed to ensuring that Grand Kru County is not left behind. I will work tirelessly to bring attention to our plight and secure funding for road repairs and improvements,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Senator Bartekwa has called on journalists and media professionals to play a crucial role in holding the government accountable for its promises, urging the press to not only report on the challenges facing citizens but also monitor the government’s progress in addressing these issues. “The media has a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability. I encourage you to ask the tough questions and push for answers that the people deserve,” he remarked.

As Grand Kru County grapples with these challenges, the commitment from its senator to advocate for better conditions alongside the call for media accountability reflects a growing movement for change among local leaders and citizens alike.

The calls serve as a reminder of the critical intersections between governance, infrastructure, and community well-being, as residents look forward to a future where their voices are heard, and their needs are addressed.
