Twelve Female Journalists Benefit from Basic Journalism Training in Forest Reporting

Twelve Liberian female journalists have benefited from a 3-day basic journalism training in forest reporting on transparency and accountability.

The training was held in Ganta, Angel Hill Top Guest House from October 2-4.  The Liberia Media Center with support from the Multi Stakeholders Forest Governance Accountability project conducted the training.

The training was intended to empower female journalists to have in-depth knowledge in basic forest reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability are fundamental in their reporting.  The twelve female reporters were recruited from three countries: Lofa, Nimba and Grand Gedeh, according to the organizers.

During the training, reporters were taught on the fundamentals of basic journalism, intended to strengthen the linkages between reporters of the various Liberia Media Center partners radio stations and the regional media clinics.

Angel Baryon, journalist at Peace FM radio in Toe Town, Grand Gedeh county, thanked the organizers of the training and said this was her first time participating in such a training as a practicing journalist.

“Since the first day of this training to the last day, I have learned so many new things about journalism. This is going to enable me improve my journalism skills and to give back to the society”, she added.

She expressed appreciation for the opportunity given her to participate in the training and promised to use the knowledge gained to contribute to sustainable forest governance.

Another newly recruited female reporter, Davidline Nyanyee, said the training served as an eye opener for her. She expressed confidence that that moving forward, she will be able to gather news contents and conduct interviews using the techniques learned from the training.

“My participation in this training has strengthened my skills and confidence in my journalism career and I will also encourage colleagues to take a bold step to contribute towards the news department at their various radio station”, she noted.  

Rose Mulbah from Radio Life appreciated the Liberia Media Center and the Multi Stakeholders Forest Governance Accountability project for their continuous support and contributions towards the growth and development of Liberian journalists.

She cautioned her fellow journalists to go back to their various counties and make impactful contributions in their news rooms.
