‎Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County | January 24, 2026|  Vice President Jeremiah Kpang Koung has officially launched the construction of a state-of-the-art Student Center at Grand Gedeh County University (GGCU), marking a significant milestone for the region’s academic infrastructure.

‎In a ceremony held on the university’s main campus, the Vice President revealed that the project was born directly from a formal request made by the university’s student leadership. He noted that his office felt a “moral obligation” to turn the students’ vision into reality, providing a dedicated hub for both academic collaboration and campus social life.

    ‎A Legacy of Decentralization

‎During his keynote address, Vice President Koung framed the new project as a continuation of the Unity Party’s long-term commitment to the southeast.

‎He highlighted the following key points:

‎Historical Context: He credited the 12-year administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the initial establishment of the university.

‎Educational Access: Koung praised the Sirleaf-Boakai era for its “visionary foresight” in decentralizing higher education, moving away from a system where students were forced to relocate to Montserrado County for degrees.

‎Regional Growth: The VP emphasized that the current administration remains dedicated to prioritizing Grand Gedeh’s development as part of a nationwide growth strategy.

    ‎Project Timeline

‎While the specific financial details and total cost of the facility were not disclosed during the ceremony, the Vice President provided a concrete timeline for the university community.

‎”Construction is expected to begin next week on the university’s main campus,” Hon. Koung announced to a crowd of cheering students and local officials.

‎The facility is expected to serve as a cornerstone for student engagement, bridging the gap between rigorous academic study and the need for a modern communal space.
