Tubmanburg City, Bomi County |June 2, 2026|Hundreds of residents in Bomi County have been left homeless after a powerful storm swept through several communities on the evening of June 1, 2026.
The disaster destroyed more than 70 homes and caused widespread damage to property and livelihoods.
The storm affected Government Farm Community, Bekina Town, and Jarwajeh Varney Bone Town, where strong winds ripped off roofs and damaged houses within minutes.
Many families lost their belongings and were forced to seek shelter elsewhere.
Government Farm Community recorded the most severe destruction, with more than 35 houses completely destroyed.
Over 135 residents were displaced and are now facing difficult living conditions.
Speaking about the situation, Town Chief Jeremiah Kortu described the damage as devastating.
“The community is in a state of despair. People have lost everything and urgently need assistance,” he said.

In Bekina Town, at least 15 houses were de-roofed by the storm, leaving more than 45 residents without shelter.
Families are still assessing their losses and looking for ways to rebuild.
“The damage is overwhelming,” said Town Chairlady Miatta Fofana. “Our people need immediate support to recover from this disaster.”
Jarwajeh Varney Bone Town also suffered significant losses, with more than 25 homes damaged or destroyed.
Over 45 residents were displaced and are depending on relatives and friends for temporary accommodation.
Town Chief Madam Miatta Karmo appealed for urgent assistance, saying, “We are appealing for urgent help. Many families have nowhere to sleep and lack essential supplies.”
Community leaders are calling on the Government of Liberia, humanitarian organizations, and development partners to provide emergency support, including shelter materials, food, clothing, and medical assistance for affected families.
As recovery efforts begin, many families remain hopeful that assistance will arrive quickly to help them rebuild their homes and restore their lives.
Residents say the disaster highlights the importance of stronger disaster preparedness and community resilience programs.
