Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County | June 1, 2026 |A Nigerian national, Esther Asuaquo, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the 7th Judicial Circuit Court in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, after pleading guilty to human trafficking charges.

According to court records, the case involved three Nigerian female minors who were brought to Liberia under false promises of employment opportunities.

Authorities said the children were allegedly deceived and later forced into prostitution at an illegal mining site.

The conviction is being viewed as an important step in protecting children and other vulnerable people from exploitation.

Child protection advocates say strong action against human trafficking helps create safer communities and sends a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated.

The case highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies, communities, and child protection organizations.

Authorities continue to encourage the public to report suspected cases of human trafficking and child exploitation to the relevant agencies.

The ruling also underscores the role of the justice system in ensuring accountability for crimes committed against children.

Liberia’s National Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce described the conviction as “a major victory” in the country’s efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable children.

Officials say the case strengthens ongoing efforts to safeguard children’s rights and promote a safer environment for young people across Liberia.
